Spring Equinox
Hi everyone, I am so happy to say the spring equinox is less than a week away, Tuesday March 20th! Living in New England we just got some terrible snow storms and thinking of spring is the only thing getting us by.

There are a few preparations I am planning on doing to get ready for this new season...
It is the second year of my spring equinox hair cut & the first year of a spring cleanse for me.
I started cutting my hair myself when I was sick of paying a ridiculous amount of money for a quick trim, I just snip the ends off of my wet hair and I'm feeling fine, but why cut it off at the equinox? I cut my hair at each equinox/solstice to ring in the new season and embrace the upcoming changes.
Spring is one of the best times to start a cleanse. It is the end of Winter which is a time where we indulge ourselves during the holidays and consume foods that are warming. I try to eat seasonally so the vegetable and fruits are slim to none here in New England. Winter is the best time to load up on healthy grains, especially breads, oils, fats, and for you meat eaters this is the prime time to get the animal proteins.
Spring brings in months of healthy eating with a generous amount of fruits and vegetables readily available. To make sure our bodies are able to adequately receive all the nutrients we are about to be eating we should regenerate a healthy internal system from the not so cleansing foods we have consumed over the cold hard winter months.
Cheers to a healthy spring season ahead!
Spring Equinox Cleanse
3 days: removes toxins
5 days: starts healing process
10 days: cleanses and renews the bloodstream
*Below lists the time frame and foods to eat, no specific order or combination, whatever works for you.
8 am until noon: Enjoy herbal teas, water, apples, oranges, kiwis, grapefruit, and lemons.
Noon until 8pm: Steam/ bake/ roast asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes, garlic, parsnips, dandelion greens, leafy greens, parsley, olive oil, sprouts, water, and herbal teas.
*For the afternoon you should combine raw and cooked vegetables to supply live enzymes for digestion. I would suggest keeping the greens raw as those will probably taste the best.
To end the fast: Bring in some spring grains with your afternoon meals, barely, wheat, millet, rye, and or quinoa.
This information was gathered from reading the Seasonal Detox Diet by Carrie L' Esperance, a book I borrowed from Dr. McGonigle's wonderful library.
