All about traveling
Now that the cold has finally settled in here in Europe it is time for me to say goodbye. But how did I do it all?
2 months backpacking in Europe, I have many people say, "wow you must be rich", "do you work?!", the answer is no and sometimes. I have my ways, and I am going to share not only my tips but also some things Ive learned and seen these past 2 months.
1. Transportation:
The first flight abroad can be cheap. My flight from Providence to Dublin was $100, Norwegian air! I also use student universe or sky scanner for cheap tickets.
Public transportation is common and cheap in Europe, buses are the cheapest and trains can be sold with a pass, eurrail.
2. Food:
Snacks and snacks. I brought snacks with me and then continuously went to grocery stores to buy food to cook or have for my travels. It is much cheaper than going out to eat. (The food costs in Germany are really low). Water in Europe is of great quality, you are safe to drink all of it (at least where I have been) so that will save you money in the long run too.
When I participate in work exchange or couch surfing they will usually feed you all of your meals so that helps.
3. Housing:
Hostels, couch surfing, and work exchange programs through World Packers.
Hostels in Europe are cheap, couch surfing is an app you download and create a profile and you are ready to meet locals.
World Packers, an application a relative shared with me last christmas! I find different farms or places I am interested in their projects, contact them and usually they can pick you up. I have have housing from shared lofts, apartment for me and other workers, to my own hotel room. I meet great people, sleep for free, eat for free, and do a bit of work.
And do not get stuck buying many things! So far my only souvenir was a scarf from Italy because it was so cold and windy haha.
This trip made me realize many things about myself and the world around me. I really enjoyed being on my own. I had two train evacuations (One while I was on the train), and dealt with only 2 really crazy/bad days, one per months actually! I had the time of my life. I met so many cool people, only for a short amount of time but It was great. Meeting people, dealing with different cultures and experiences helps tests me and show me I can do anything. I have all I need right here inside of me. My mind expands everyday in new ways. I come up with new plans, ideas, how I handle things, view of myself, even views of my life before or of my home...
Hope you all can travel sometime soon.
Ciao :)
