New moon Yoga & Lunar Living

Self Love & The Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year Depend upon the Moon’s Cycle.

It begins on the New Moon & changes date each year.

(Always between the end of January and the start of February.)

This is the end and beginning of the feminine cycle we live by. Not as noticeably as the solar new year which starts January first & dictates when we rise/set with the sun. The lunar new year signifies a new year of waxing and waning of the moon, her control on the ocean tides & the emotions of our world.

This new moon both the sun & moon are in Aquarius...

High emotions move towards empowerment

Loneliness moves towards more love

Self awareness & reflection become more optimistic

Reflecting upon the past year and celebrating the life to come, the Chinese party for 2 weeks up until the full moon to ring in this powerful new year.

What triumphs, lessons learned, or growth have occurred for you this past year?

Reflect upon what you have shared or felt...

What are you looking forward to in this new year?

Plans to be made, goals set, what would you like to experience? To see or feel?

February 12th the New Moon is here, a couple days before Valentine’s Day so lets dedicate it to love, self love!

Take a moment to check in with your heart, placing a hand on the center of your chest. Breathing deeply...

Love, can you feel it?

A place in your body?

A person?

A color?

A path you want to take?

A leap of faith?

Physical Heart Opening:

-Back bending stretches

Expanding outward, deep inhales, embracing life.

Physically back bending stretches out the abdominal muscles controlling the spine.

Spinal nerves are decompressed giving energy to all other nerves, organs and muscles in the body, releasing of subconscious tension.

A few poses I will be using in my V day class:

Cows Face / Shoe Lace pose

Bridge / Wheel

Bow pose (a round of 3)

Moon Salutations with attention to the heart space in Half moon & Cobra/ Upward dog

Energetically Heart Opening:

When your heart center is closed you feel doubt, fear, closed to those around you, defensive, distant and cold. Focusing more on thoughts than feelings, not allowing you to move past your pain...

How to move on? Move from your head to your heart...

Focusing on your heart center...

Green or Pink color in the center of your chest.

Radiating warmth, compassion, openness, welcoming, gratitude.

See through your heart, clearly expressing yourself, following it towards joy.

What does self love look like to you?

Cooking nourishing foods? Taking time to play in nature? To sleep in?

Whatever you choose, try to make a habit of taking care of your heart, your love for yourself.

How do you want to be loved? Do it for yourself so others can do it for you too.

Happy Lunar New Year & Happy Valentine’s Day
